Ashville, the home of Aylesbury Plantation, is 15 miles northeast of Monticello, Florida in a rural part of undiscovered Jefferson County. When you’re here, you know you’re in the country.
Jefferson County’s population is 14,000, which is the same as it was in 1900. It is the only county in Florida that still has no traffic lights and is proud to stay that way.
The region also has a moderate climate. In January, our coldest month, daily high temperatures average 64 degrees, with lows averaging 40 degrees. July and August are the warmest months with highs and lows averaging 91 and 72, respectively. Our average annual rainfall is 62 inches.
In contrast to south Florida, this part of the state has four distinct seasons. The warm summers flow into the cooler months of fall with its magical color of changing leaves. The winters are short lived, giving way early in the year to an intense burst of springtime color and rejuvenation.
